ECLIPSE SELECT PLAYERS TAKE ECNL ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
RICHMOND, VA.– Three Eclipse Select players claimed Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) 2021-22 All-Midwest Conference Players of the Year honors as announced by the league on Thursday, Aug.11. These players included Giovanni Magana of the Eclipse Select ECNL Boys 2007’s, Mactzil Lopez of the Eclipse Select ECNL Boys 2006’s, and Maximiliano Ibarra of the Eclipse Select ECNL Boys 04/03’s.
Magana, Lopez, and Ibarra will now be eligible for selection to the ECNL Boys All-American teams, which will be announced at a later date. All-Conference Players of the Year will also be eligible for selection for the ECNL Boys’ and ECNL Girls’ National Player of the Year.
Also released on Thursday, the league anointed All-Conference first-team and second-team awards across all nine conferences for the girls and all 10 conferences for the boys. Eclipse was featured heavily as 20 total Eclipse Select Boys ECNL were named. Oppositely, 13 Eclipse Select ECNL Girls and one Eclipse Select North ECNL Girl were named.
These awards come at no surprise. The Eclipse Select Soccer Club, as a whole, made significant noise at the ECNL Playoffs and National Finals this past summer. Highlighted by a National Championship Finalist at the Boys U-16 group, the club saw a total of 11 teams progress to the ECNL’s postseason. Five boys and five girls teams advanced out of the Midwest Conference to the Champions League. Out of the Champions League, three teams made it to the ECNL Finals; The U-13 Girls, U-14 Girls, and U-16 Boys.
The following players were selected through a recommendation and voting process involving representatives from every member club in each ECNL conference. Each athlete selected as a Conference Player of the Year or to the All-Conference First or Second Teams was chosen after a thoughtful evaluation of their respective performances throughout the 2021-22 season. Each conference has an All-Conference First and Second Team for the U15-U18/19 age groups and also recognizes a Player of the Year or Co-Players of the Year from each age group for their excellence on the pitch. The number of players selected for each All-Conference First Team was based on the size of the respective conference.
