Hannah Davison joins AIK Football Damer in Sweden
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (March 17, 2021) – AIK Football Damer has signed Eclipse Select Alumna defender Hannah Davison on an agreement that extends over the 2022 season. The 23-year-old out of Geneva, Illinois comes most recently from the Chicago Red Stars where she played under manager Rory Dames.
“I am happy and honored to have signed for AIK. It is an incredibly nice opportunity for me to continue my career abroad and with such a good and historic club. I have always strived to be the best player and person, and I think AIK will take my game to the next level. I am really looking forward to start training with my new teammates, meet the leaders, and play in the Damallsvenskan. Sweden is a beautiful country and I long to call it my home,” says Hannah Davison.
Hannah joins AIK Football Damer based in Stockholm, Sweden after signing a contract that extends to the end of the 2022 season. AIK will compete in the Damallsvenskan, the highest division of women’s soccer in Sweden. AIK earned promotion after winning the Elitettan league title in 2020 with a league-best 72 points and 24-0-2 record. The Gnaws will begin their season with top-flight football for the first time since 2015.
“In Hannah, we have a player who complements our backline in a very good way. Hannah is very strong both in the air and in the melee game and fast in her feet. The mentioned physical qualities combined with her fine leadership qualities make us see Hannah as a very important piece of the puzzle in our team building,” says AIK Football’s manager Anne Mäkinen.
Prior to her move overseas, Rory Dames and the Chicago Red Stars signed a contract with Hannah after being selected as the number 33rd overall pick in the National Women’s Soccer League College Draft in 2019. Davidson played collegiately at Northwestern University studying Human Development and Psychological Services. She was a staple in the Wildcats’ starting eleven starting 78 of the 80 games. Hannah’s defensive contributions lead to 47 clean sheets over her four years helping Northwestern to their first Big Ten Championship in program history in 2016. Davison started her career for Eclipse in 2010. She played a vital role in winning Illinois State Cups in 2014 and 2011, a Disney Showcase championship in 2013, a Region II championship in 2011, and a Dallas Cup championship in 2011. Hannah competed in the Elite Clubs National League beginning at the age of 15 through graduation.
