The derby game on June 7th has a lot riding on the outcome of the contest. It features two of the top women’s youth soccer teams in the country who play on clubs who each have rich histories of winning. Both Eclipse and Hawks are notorious for jostling with one another for national prominence out of the Midwest. Over the years, it has developed into one of the nation’s best rivalries in youth sports. The result of this upcoming matchup will determine the 2019 ECNL Midwest Conference Champions and vital national seeding positions just weeks before the ECNL National Playoffs kick-off in San Diego.
“We are deeply honored and excited for the opportunity that adidas has given the club to be featured on a national stage,” said Eclipse Vice President and Director of Coaching for the Girls Mike Nesci. “These girls have worked extremely hard this season leading up to this vital game. We cannot thank Three Stripe Live and adidas enough to give our girls a platform to showcase themselves and all they have achieved this season with a broadcast game in such a crucial match.”
The Eclipse Select Lunar 03’s have played a flawless ECNL regular season up to this point. They possess a perfect 16-0-0 overall record, 8-0-0 in the Midwest Conference. The Lunar 2003’s are not only in sole possession of first place in the conference, but also hold the number one overall seed in the country at the Under 16 age group. A win or draw on June 7th would result in a Midwest Conference Championship for the Eclipse Lunar 03’s.
The Michigan Hawks ECNL U16’s have had a remarkable season themselves posting a 12-1-1 overall record, 7-1-0 in the Midwest Conference. They sit just behind Eclipse in second place in the conference. The Hawks U16’s are currently positioned as the fourth overall seed in the county at the Under 16 age group. If the Hawks win, they will win the conference with the head-to-head tiebreaker.
